INTERVIEW PREPARATION

1. Research the company thoroughly through their website - have a good understanding of what the company do, their history, areas of expertise, the geographical areas they work in, etc. When/if asked what you know about the company try not to quote their website word for word, it is worth taking some time to put what you know into your own words.

2. Be prepared to talk in depth about your academic, work and personal background. It is always a good idea to have a copy of your CV with you to refer to during the interview. Do make notes if you wish. Try to illustrate your achievements with examples of your work and be ready to speak about specific modules of your Degree too. Always take written work in a well-presented folder.

3. Plan your answers to specific questions that may arise during the interview, such as:

  • What three things differentiate you from another candidate?
  • What skills will you bring to the company?
  • What motivates you professionally and personally?
  • Where do you see yourself in five years time?

4. Plan some explorative questions for the interviewer, don't forget, you are interviewing them as well! Use open questions starting with "how", "what", "when" and "why".

5. It is always useful to ask for initial feedback at the end of the interview. This will help both you and us understand how things have gone at an early stage.

6. Always have your journey to the interview planned in advance, be clear where you need to go and who you need to report to on arrival. Leyman Stead Associates will fully prepare you for this.

7. Don't leave preparation for the interview to the last minute. Give yourself a few days to get everything together so you do not forget anything.

8. Always ensure you are well-groomed for your interview. First impressions do count and can never be changed. Regardless of the role it is always a good idea to be well presented in attire such as a suit, even if you ultimately do not need to dress formally for the role itself.

9. Get a good nights sleep prior to the interview to ensure you are refreshed and if you smoke, try not to immediately before the interview and wait until you are well away from the office building before you light up after the interview!

10. Please contact us if you have any questions prior to interview, however small.

And finally.......GOOD LUCK
